Research

Secondary Research

Most developed countries have implemented systems for recycling unused and expired medicines. These systems are subject to various rules, such as Hazardous Waste Regulations.

In contrast, there is no specific law regarding this issue, except for The National Hazardous Wastes List.

image

Both developed countries and China require users to send medicines to recycling centers or drugstores themselves, which can be inconvenient.

Apothecaries play a crucial role in the medicine collection program and have additional responsibilities.

Questionnaire & Interview

We received a total of 171 questionnaires. Then, we selected 15 typical users from all the interviewees.

image
image

Body Condition

Most of the interviewees are in good body conditions.

image

Medicines Left

People often purchase more medicine than they actually require.

image

How to Dispose

Users often don't know how to properly discard their medicines, and even when they do, they may not have a convenient place to dispose of them.

image

Join the Program

Many people are unaware of the Medicine Collection program, and they may not know where to send their unused medications.

image

Ideate

Broadcast

Pain point 1: Users volunteer to return used products. Solution: Increase efficiency by allowing users to return multiple medicines at once.

image

Diagnose

Pain point 2: Easy and intelligent diagnosis. Solution: Utilize AI technology to diagnose and compare with the patient's medical history. After diagnosis, provide a verification code for the patient.

image

Buy

Pain point 3: Easy selling in nearby area, which makes it difficult to control the amount of sold medicines.

Solution: Implement smart medical vending machines that sell medicines by subpackage, allowing for better control over the quantity sold.

image

Take

Pain point 4: Reminding users to take their medicine on time. Solution: A reminder from the smart water bottle.

image

Recycle

Pain point 5: Users can easily volunteer to return their water bottles.

Solution: Users can only receive tomorrow's medicine if they return today's water bottle.

image

Store

Pain point 6 - Remind about expiration dates. Solution - Add a label that changes color on the package. When the medicine is expired, the label will turn a completely different color. Alternatively, use a smart medical box to remind the user.

Pain point 7: Teach users professional storing methods.

Solution: Use a smart medical box. It can distinguish between different kinds of medicines and suggest to the user the correct way to store them.

Exchange

Pain point 8-Check the quality of left medicines.

Pain point 9-Get in touch with those who need medicines.

Pain point 10-How to send the medicines to others?

Discard

Pain point 11: Finding a place to recycle unwanted or expired medicines. Solution: Users can send them back to a smart medical vending machine.

Pain point 12: How to handle the collected medicines? Solution: The machines separate the packaging and medicines, then grind them.

Pain point 13: Providing feedback to users.

Smart Machine

The smart medical vending machine has two windows: one for extracting bottles, and the other for returning them. The screen helps users confirm whether they want to retrieve or return the bottle, and it also provides feedback during the dispensing process.
